TV protesters have won the battle of Jericho. The apocalyptic program, which had been canceled by CBS, was suddenly revived Wednesday, with CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler saying in a letter to the show's supporters, posted on its website: "Wow! Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. ... You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard." Tassler said that at least seven more episodes of the series have been ordered. However, she cautioned, "For there to be more Jericho, we will need more viewers." Protesters had complained that the new show, which had received much critical praise, had been unable to attract a substantial audience after it returned from a three-month hiatus and was programmed opposite Fox's steamroller, American Idol. CBS did not announce a date for the show's return.

Because Les Moonves is an idiot. And that's me putting it mildly.

Honestly, I'll never understand TV business. The good shows get cancelled, but the crap shows survive endlessly. WHY??? :doh:

So how come CBS wasn't "humbled" by the disappointment of JoA fans enough to do something about closure for OUR show?  I LOATHE these hypocrites!

A massive campaign has been mounted by fans of Jericho, which got off to an impressive start at the beginning of the season but appeared to lose most of its audience following its winter hiatus. Those who remained loyal to the show have launched an online petition that has already been signed by more than 60,000 and have also posted thousands of messages to Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, protesting the drama's cancellation. A preamble posted on the website http://jericholives.com/fight.htm reads in part, "This show has touched us all like no other before it. It is unique. It is another high-quality show cast aside by the networks." The website suggests that the show may have "suffered for its success" since, it said, many viewers had decided to watch it on their digital video recorders and online. Tassler responded that she, too, had been a fan of the show "and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story."

CBS Cancels 'Jericho', Tries "Daring" Shows

CBS's Jericho will come tumbling down next season -- its ratings demonstrating to network executives that it was not fit for battle. It was the latest of a series of announcements by the networks that they are abandoning the onetime popular serial dramas. Meeting with reporters on Wednesday, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler indicated that the network -- which remains the most watched -- plans to alter its conservative image by attempting to introduce some "daring" new programs next year. "We said this was the year because we have stability, we had the strength. We wanted to make a little noise and stir things up," she commented as she took the wraps off the network's plans for next season. Added CBS Chairman Les Moonves: "We wanted to take some chances -- we could afford to." By far, the most unusual entry will be Viva Laughlin, about a gambler who dreams of buying a casino in Nevada. At times in the drama, the characters lip-sync pop songs. It is exec produced by actor Hugh Jackman, who will also make occasional appearances as a regular character. A new detective series, Moonlight, features a vampire as the private eye. A new reality series, Kid Nation, will feature 40 8-15-year-olds building their own city in the New Mexico desert, without any help from adults. "Stunningly," wrote Washington Post TV writer Lisa De Moraes, "the network taking the wildest swings next season with its new series choices is also the one with the most viewers."
